Loving your body, where do you get started?Jun 07, 2022
Even with all the self love Instagram accounts and Pinterest boards, I still see questions like this circulating in Facebook groups. Getting started doesn't have to be overwhelming or intimidating. For some reason, you think loving yourself comes with different rules than loving anything else. It's all the same, didn't you know?
Get to know your body
Loving your body starts the same way you love pecan pie, the ocean, or Grey's Anatomy...you get introduced to it. It might sound like a strange concept because you've been living inside your body your whole life. However, have you ever really taken time to "get to know" your body and think about everything it's been through? Have you written the story of your specific body?
Nope. And that's where you get started. It's way too much to expect yourself to be completely comfortable with all your flaws in a few weeks. But you will be surprised how quickly your perception of your body changes as you really get to know the story of your body.
What would loving your body look like?
You have to define what "loving your body" looks like as well. Because your definition of love might look really strange. Right now, you might think love means never saying no. Right now, you might think love means everything is perfect.
Culture gives some toxic examples of what love looks like. When you apply these examples to the relationship you have with your body, that relationship also gets toxic - even though you're following an example of "love".

Challenge your thinking in how you define love, what loving your body would actually look like, etc.
You can't reach a goal without defining the goal. Above I shared a few words that need to be included in a loving relationship. What would it look like to have those traits in the relationship you have with your body?
